WSDOT staff recommended concept of US 395 Deer Park Intersection Study to the WSDOT’s Highway Safety Panel on June 16th and received approval as recommended. The recommendation is now part of the Department’s 2017-2019 budget proposal. Had it not been presented in a timely manner, funding would not have been available until 2019. The Assuming Legislative approval, the project design is scheduled to begin in July 2017, with construction in 2018.
More work needs to be done – the final decision on movement restrictions at Burroughs/Dalton has not been made, and there are some things WSDOT wants to make sure are in the design based on public comments. WSDOT is working on scheduling another public meeting in the near future (looking at mid-August) to discuss the project. Prior to this public meeting, they want to again visit with the City of Deer Park and Spokane County specifically. The June 1st Open House was a success. There were over 450 people in attendance – over 10% of community. WSDOT’s website now has the majority of the displays from that Open House.
