7th Graders, faculty members and Key Club volunteers take a break after cleaning up Colville Road and H Streets as part of their 7th Grade Spikes Spring Service Project

On Friday June 2nd, Deer Park Middle School 7th graders worked in and around their community to complete the 4th Annual 7th Grade Spikes Spring Service (4S) Project. The 4S Project was Principal Tim Olietti’s way of instilling a sense of hands-on community service with his students. In the morning teams of 7th graders washed windows at the Deer Park Crossing Senior Residence facility, planted flowers at the city’s maintenance shop, stained all the city’s park benches and tables, picked up litter and trash on school district property near the high school, cleaned trails at Bear Lake Regional Park, cleared brush on trails at Camp Reed YMCA Camp, and cleaned out the storage shed at the Middle School. After lunch all the students picked up litter along Colville Road and H Street.

Local sponsors of the 4S Project include the Deer Park Kiwanis Club, Deer Park Rotary, SCOPE, Stag Prints (DPHS DECA), DPHS Key Club, City of Deer Park, Bear Lake Regional Park, Deer Park Crossing, and Yokes Fresh Market of Deer Park.
